How Strong are 8-ft Plastic Folding Tables?

Bag of QuestionsWelcome to our 100th Blog Entry! To honour this momentous occasion, we've put together a stress test video for our 8-ft Rectangular Plastic Folding Table. It's been about two months since we posted our last stress test video blog on our Tall NES Reliable Round Plastic Folding Cocktail Table. Plastic folding rectangular tables are a staple of the rental industry, and the 8-ft is far and away the most popular size for our rental customers and our banquet hall customers. NES Reliable Rectangular Plastic Folding Tables are commercial grade tables, and, as you can see from the video, are capable of holding an incredible amount of weight!

Now that you've see just how strong our 8-ft Rectangular Plastic Folding Table are, if you have any questions about them, please feel free to contact one of our fantastic sales reps. They would love to answer any questions about our Plastic Folding Tables or any of our other products!

The Rental Show, Website Re-Design, et une autre langue

The Rental ShowIt's that time of year again. That's right, it's time for The Rental Show in beautiful Las Vegas, Nevada. The National Event Supply Trade Show Team managed to fly out of snow-bound Toronto on Saturday, only 5 and half hours later than they'd planned and got to The Sands Expo and Convention Centre to set up our booth. This year, we have the biggest booth we've ever had and it's filled with our fantastic NES Reliable Plastic Folding Chairs, our durable NES Wood Tables, and several new product lines like our Eclisse and Copa Glassware and our Polar White dinnerware. Our NES Trade Show Team will be on hand to help answer any questions that you may have and to show you all the great features of our many products. So, if you're in Las Vegas for the show, head on down to booth 4072 and talk to Dennis, Diana, Bill, or Jonathan and find out why you always win with National Event Supply!

We've been working on our website revamp for the past 3 months, and have finally managed to get things tested and up on our live site. We've gotten rid of the bright green sidebars from the previous version, and have updated the base to make the website more friendly for touchscreen based devices like the Apple iPhone and iPad, the Blackberry Playbook, the Microsoft Surface, and Android based phones and tables. With the new website framework, you'll be able to see larger pictures of our products by clicking on links or the picture itself. We think we've gotten most of the bugs out, but if you do run into any, please do let us know!

While we achieved our goal of making the website for touchscreen/mobile device, we're still in the process of making our website bilingual. We're currently working on putting together a French version of our website, complete with all the bells and whistles. Stephanie has put together translations of all of our website pages, and we hope to be able to launch the French version of the website by the end of February. We'll be updating our blog, our twitter feed, and our facebook friends when the French version of the site goes live.

As always if you're interested in a quote for any of our products, or you simply have a question, please feel free to drop us a line. Just as a reminder, February 18th is Family Day in Ontario, and as such we will be closed that day. Our Ontario-based shipping partners will also be closed that day, so if you are looking for products that week you may want to get your order in early.

New Catalogue for the Trade Show Season!

When we put together our Table and Chair Catalogue it was a huge undertaking. We spent the better part of 2011 taking pictures of all of our products and cleaning up the pictures for publication. We wrote copy for the catalogue, describing our outstanding products, and providing reasons for you, the customer, to purchase our fine wares. We learned a lot of software, and spent time looking for companies to print our first stab at a catalogue. When the catalogue came out we were thrilled. We finally had something we could put into the hands of customers and potential customers.

And then, shortly after we received the catalogues, they started going out of date. We started adding to our product lines, expanding our offerings. There were new folding chairs, new folding tables, new chair carts, and new dollies. We had expanded our product lines, offering chairs in new colours. There were new cushions for our resin chiavari chairs, and a blow-mold stacking chair too.

Table and Chairs CatalogueLuckily, in mid 2012, Stephanie joined our team and we put her to work revising our table and chair catalogue. She added the new products we already had in our warehouse and included products that we were expecting for spring 2013. Stephanie worked hard on the 2013 Table and Chair catalogue, and now I'm pleased to announce that the 2013 Table and Chair Catalogue is available!

This 28 page catalogue contains all the products that we are offering in our Toronto, Vancouver, and Indianapolis Warehouses. It includes all of our plastic folding tables, our wood folding tables, our plastic folding cocktail tables, and our wood cruiser tables. You'll find information about our Plastic Folding Chairs, learn about our resin chiavari chairs, and be the first to see our NEW Folding Pedestal Tables.

Now that the 2013 Table and Chair Catalogue is complete, Stephanie has begun working on putting together our 2013 Tabletop Catalogue and hopes to have it finished shortly. She is also putting together a 2013 French Catalogue which we hope will be later this spring. If you interested in receiving one of our new 2013 Table and Chair Catalogues, please fill out this form and we'll have one sent out to you as quickly as possible. If you have any questions about any of our products, or would like to talk to one of our sales reps, please don't hesitate to contact us. We're always happy to help with all of your needs!

National Event Supply Holiday Hours

Rainbow Christmas TreeIt's just five days until Christmas (or one day until the end of the world) and we're still going strong here at National Event Supply. I've gotten my oval platter for the turkey and some Serenity Champagne Flutes for the Christmas Morning Brunch; presents have been bought and delivered (but not yet wrapped); and the baking is under control (for the most part).

On the work front we've sent postcards to our BC Rental customers inviting them to come see us at the BC Rental Show, Stephanie is putting the finishing touches on our new catalogue, Jonathan is putting together trade show booths, and Dennis is making sure we'll have enough product for the spring. We're all working on making sure that 2013 will be the best year ever, but before the calendar flips over, we're all going to take a quick break to recharge our batteries.

With that in mind, National Event Supply will be closed from 5:00pm December 21, 2012 until 9:00am January 2, 2013. In this season of good will, we wish you and your family best wishes of the season and hope that you have a happy and healthy new year! And if the world ends on the 21st it was great doing business with you.

Wood Folding Tables vs Plastic Folding Tables (Pros/Cons)

Pros and Cons of Wood and Plastic Folding TablesWhen purchasing new tables, many of our customers have difficulty choosing between NEW Wood Folding Tables and NES Reliable Plastic Folding Tables. We are often asked "Which tables are better?" in hopes that we'll be able to definitively tell our customer and potential customers which tables are better. The truth is that both types of tables have pros and cons that you need to consider before you purchase your tables. To help you make your choice, we will look at some of these positives and negatives of both tables, including weight, strength, cleaning, flexibility of use, and overall longevity.

Weight

Weight is an important factor if you are going to be moving around the tables on a regular basis. If you need to move the tables around with limited labour, then the advantage clearly goes to the plastic folding tables. For example, the 6-ft NES Reliable Rectangular Plastic Folding Table weighs in at a scant 30.26lbs compared to the NES Wood Folding Table which weighs 48lbs. Lighter tables help reduce the risk of injury and damage to the table when it is being moved. If you will not be moving the tables then the weight advantage is likely a non-factor for your purchase.

Strength

When it comes to strength it is really a dead heat. Both the NES Reliable Plastic Folding Tables as well as the NES Wood Folding Tables are exceptionally strong. Need some proof? Take a look at the two pictures below. One is our 6-ft NES Reliable Rectangle Plastic Folding Table and the other is our new 6-ft NES Wood Rectangle Folding Table. Both tables had two 35lb 6-ft rectangle skids and 22 8-ft NES Reliable Rectangular Plastic Folding Tables stacked on top of on them; This is a combined weight of over 1100lbs. At the end of the one hour test, both tables were folded neatly and put away with no evidence that the test had been performed on them.

Cleaning

Each product in this case has a different advantage for cleaning. The plastic folding tables are great for fast cleanup of spills. Since it is a flat surface that does not have bolts in the top like the wood folding tables have, you can simply wipe the top clean. With that said some people do find that over time the plastic folding tables pick up marks that are either difficult to get off or they are not able to get them off the table. This is not as much of an issue with the plywood tables because they can be refinished.

Flexibility of Use

In terms of overall usability, the plastic tables come out slightly ahead of the plywood tables. Why is this? As I have already mentioned, the plastic tables are lighter than their wood equivalents, which makes them easier to manage. Additionally, they can be used in doors and outdoors. While the plastic folding tables will deteriorate over time if left outdoors, the deterioration will occur over a significantly longer period of time. Additionally if you wipe the tables dry after it rains this deterioration will be delayed further.

Overall Longevity

For overall longevity, wood folding tables are king-- although the wood table may not remain the size that you originally purchased. Many of our customers love that they can sand the tables, apply a new coat of varnish, and effectively have a brand new table. What happens if you break the corner? The 8-ft x 30” rectangle will simply become a different size, perhaps a 8-ft x 18” Training Table or a 6-ft x 30” rectangle. While plastic folding tables also last a long time in a rental environment, you are not able to refinish and reuse them in the same way that you can with the plywood tables.

So which type of tables should you buy? It’s really a personal preference. You need to decide what is important to you, so that you get table that's best for you on a day to day basis. At the end of the day, as long as you purchase a high quality table, we don’t think there is a bad choice between the two. We have many customers that wish that they switched to Plastic Folding Tables earlier and others that swear by the Wood Folding Tables. If you have any other questions about folding tables or any of our other products, please don't hesitate to ask us a question!
