Wood Cruiser Tables vs Plastic Folding Cocktail Tables (Pros and Cons)

Now that we have wood cruiser tables back in stock, we thought it would be a great time to compare them to our plastic folding cocktail tables. Both of them are available in bar height and table height, but that's where the similarities end. If you're looking at getting into the cocktail table market, you may not be sure which way you should go. We'll try to make the decision easier on why choose wood cruiser tables over plastic folding cocktail tables or vice versa.

Plastic Folding Cocktail Tables

plastic folding cocktail table

  • No assembly required
  • Minimal set-up time
  • Easily folds away when event is over
  • Only one piece; no parts to go missing
  • More weather resistant than wood cocktail table
  • Table feet do not allow levelling on uneven ground
  • Doesn't have the traditional shape in spandex table covers
  • Only Available in one size (32") and one shape (round)

Wood Cruiser Tables

wood cruiser tables

  • Traditional shape looks outstanding under spandex
  • Available in 3 sizes (24", 30", 36") and 2 shapes (round and square)
  • New parts can be bought if pieces are damaged or lost
  • By swapping pole, table can go from table height to bar height rather than needing to buy another table
  • Assembly required (Screwdriver Required)
  • Not as weather resistant. Table top will separate if exposed to the elements long term
  • Pieces can be lost or stolen because it comes apart into separate pieces
  • More labour intensive due to assembly time and the need to level tables

If you're looking for an easy to handle table, and are less worried about the aesthetics of what it looks like under spandex, you'll probably find the plastic folding cocktail table more to your liking. If aesthetic are important or you like being able to change things up size, shape, and height wise, you might find the wood cocktail table more to your liking.

Rectangle Banquet Tables vs. Round Banquet Tables: Which Holds More People?

Readers who follow our blog know that we often have blog posts answering reader and customer questions. Today’s post is based on a question that has been asked in our website search bar more than 20 times in the past 3 months. The question is “how many less people can you seat using round tables versus using rectangular tables”.

Anyone in the events industry knows that it’s all about head counts. The more people you can fit at a table and the more tables you can fit in a room, the more money to be made. Below we’ve put together an easy to reference table of Round Banquet Tables and Rectangle Banquet Tables including their measurements and how many people they seat.

Where to buy Lifetime Tables in Canada

Over the past few years, National Event Supply has been testing our products to the limit. As some of you will remember we have been loading our tables and chairs up with salt to see just how much weight they will hold before they break. While we continue to do these tests on our own products, we also though it would be valuable for you to see how other products in the market place perform. We started doing this by testing products from an industry leader Lifetime Tables. Lifetime offers a variety of qualities ranging from consumer or residential quality up to what they call professional grade tables. In our case we have been testing their commercial quality tables, a line of tables that we consider to be the most similar to our own in terms of build quality and market positioning. To see how the 6-ft Lifetime Plastic folding table did in our test, you can take a look at our previous blog post here.

If Lifetime Tables are the plastic folding table for you, where can you buy them in Canada? National Event Supply unfortunately does not carry Lifetime tables so you can’t buy yours from us but consider buying from Home Depot, Walmart, Amazon or Costco (if you have a membership). All these major big brand stores offer the commercial quality for purchase in the following sizes:

  • Lifetime 4-ft Rectangle Table
  • Lifetime 4-ft Rectangle Fold in Half Table
  • Lifetime 6-ft Rectangle Table
  • Lifetime 6-ft Rectangle Fold in Half Table
  • Lifetime 6-ft Rectangle Adjustable Height Table
  • Lifetime 8-ft Rectangle Table
  • Lifetime 8-ft Rectangle Fold in Half Table
  • Lifetime 48” Round Table
  • Lifetime 60” Round Table
  • Lifetime 60” Round Fold in Half Table

If you are interested in a larger volume (say 50+), you may want to consider purchasing directly from Lifetime. Lifetime offers free shipping in the United States only but a sales representative can provide you with shipping to your location in Canada.

How Much weight can a Lifetime 8-ft Commercial Plastic Folding Table Hold?

Over the past several years we have been making videos where we stress tables and chairs to the breaking point. We've tested many different tables including our 6-ft NES Reliable Rectangular Plastic Folding Table, 8-ft NES Reliable Rectangular Plastic Folding Table, 60 inch NES Reliable Round Plastic Folding Table, and even the 6-ft Lifetime Commercial Plastic Folding Table. This year we are continuing our tests to help show you the strength of our products as compared to industry leaders like Lifetime Products.

Today we're going to be putting an 8 foot Lifetime Table to the test. Lifetime manufactures and sells tables, chairs, and a host of other products for consumer and commercial use. In our case we are going to test one of their commercial products being the Lifetime 8-foot commercial plastic folding table and comparing it to our NES Reliable 8-foot Rectangular Plastic Folding Table. On paper, the Lifetime Table looks to be the stronger table as it is rated for 2000 pounds of weight evenly distributed across the top, while our NES Reliable 8-foot Rectangular Plastic Folding Table is only rated for 800 pounds. However, in a previous stress test, the NES Reliable 8-foot Rectangular Plastic Folding Table managed to hold over 1890 pounds before failing. How will the Lifetime commercial folding table stack up against our 8-foot commercial plastic folding table? Let's find out!

How Strong is a 6 Foot Rectangular Wood Folding Table?

We often get asked how strong our tables are. Everyone is scared of getting a table that's not strong enough or that will collapse in a strong breeze. In the past, we've stress tested our plastic folding tables, showing what it takes to break a 6-ft Rectangular Plastic Folding Table, an 8-ft rectangular plastic folding table, and a 60-inch Round plastic folding table. Unfortunately, after stress testing our 8-ft wood folding table, last year's winter got really bad and we had to use our road salt to melt ice instead of breaking wood tables. But winter's back again, we've got a couple of skids of salt, and a desire to stress some tables!

Our first stress test is going to be the 6-ft wood rectangle folding table. Want to know how much salt it takes to break the table? Watch on!

Now that you've seen what it takes to destroy one of our 6-ft Wood Folding Table, why not:
