NES at the CRA Ontario Tabletop Show

This Saturday we were exhibiting at the Canadian Rental Association's Ontario Tabletop show which was held at the Nottawasaga Inn & Resort in Aliston, Ontario. While the show was held in a tabletop format we were still able to show off a number of our latest new product lines. We presented our new Wing Bowls (which have been hard to keep in stock), our latest dinnerware line, Polar White, as well as our Serenity Crystal stemware and Eclisse Glass stemware. Combined with our Tabletop and Table & Chair catalogues resulted in a full showing for our booth.

Bill and I were busy throughout the day meeting with a number of our customers including Mike from Happening Party Rentals, Collingwood and Christian from Totally Covered Events, Aliston each stopping by to check out our new Crystal Stemware and discuss some of the attributes of our NES Reliable Line of Plastic Folding Tables. We wrapped up the show with a long chat with Paul from Location Equipment Supply, Toronto about our extensive NES Reliable line of Plastic Folding Tables and Chairs including our NES Reliable 6ft Fold in Half Tables.

After the show everyone headed into the banquet hall at the Nottawasaga Inn Resort where we enjoyed a cocktail (or two) before sitting down for a superb dinner. We were served a Butternut Squash soup with a maple glazed breaded topping, a mixed greens salad with radicchio and spiced walnuts and for the finale we enjoyed Pan-seared pork tenderloin with a peach mango & chipotle glaze, with wild & white rice pilaf. The entire meal from start to finish was simply delicious.

Panel Game

To wrap up the evening we were entertained by Hart Entertainment with ‘Game Show Mania’, a quiz show where many of us were invited to be participants in the quiz based show. Contestants are asked simple well known everyday questions and raced to hit their buttons to be the first to answer. In the picture above we see Colin Wilson with his daughter Lauren (World of Rentals, Kingston), Paul Potvin (Location Equipment Supply, Toronto and CRA Ontario 2nd Vice President), Mike Maltby (Ingersoll Rentals and CRA Ontario President) and Gary Webb (LB White, Tampa). Paul and Gary were finalists in the contest with Paul becoming the eventual winner of the grand prize, half of the 50/50 pot that had been collected throughout the evening.

After the game show, Mike Maltby presented some awards including the Image Award to Hank from Tim’s Party Centre, Bowmanville and the Rental Store of the year was presented to Paul at Location Equipment Supply, Toronto. Wacker Nuesen were presented with the Ontario CRA Supplier of the year Award. Jeff Campbell the incoming CRA National President spoke briefly and noted the Canadian Rental Association was sponsoring a PR program that is available to all Members and Associate Members of the CRA. Since Jeff is being appointed CRA National President next month at 2013 Rental Show in Las Vegas, the PR firm used this as an opportunity to spread the news in Jeff’s local St. Thomas community. Jeff is now a celebrity throughout the community and has seen a nice jump in visits to his store, St. Thomas Rent-All.

Our Next Trade Show has us heading back out to the west coast for the BC Foodservice Expo on January 27 and 28, 2013. If you aren't going to be able to see us at a show, why not request our catalogue to see what we have in stock!

BC CRA Regional Trade Show Recap

The National Event Supply trade show team just got back from BC where we were exhibiting at the CRA BC Regional show which took place at the Cloverdale Rodeo Show Barn. The show took place over two days running from 4pm to 9pm on Friday and from 10am to 3pm on Saturday. We had a substantially larger booth than last year which took Jonathan, Tony and myself a good part of the day to get set up. This year the show had a section of the hall set aside exclusively for the Party and Event side of the rental business, a rare occurrence for a regional show like this.

In the Party and Events section, Impact Canopies showed off their Sky Flags and Branded pop-up tents, LB White and Patron Heaters had a section dedicated to tent heaters, Wacker Nueson displayed one of their Generators and AE Sales had their Granite Industries Staging Solution. We rounded out the Party and Event section with a large display including our porcelain dinnerware, cutlery, glassware, chiavari chairs, black and white resin folding chairs, bistro chairs, and of course our always popular plastic folding tables, wood folding tables, and plastic folding chairs. With the expanded booth we were able to show most of our lines of porcelain including our always popular Quadrato Square dishes, our Ovali dish line and our new Polar White dinnerware line. We were also able to show a number of new items including several sizes of wing bowls, sloped bowls, and cappuccino cups. Based on the feedback we received, many of the attendees were pleased with our wide range of rental ready products.

Catherine Bischke

As part of our show promotion, we gave away a NES Reliable Tall Plastic Folding Cocktail table to all the attendees that brought us one of the post cards we had mailed out in advance of the show. You could tell many were extremely pleased to be able to get a free NES Reliable Tall Plastic Folding Cocktail Table and take it home with them right from our booth.

After the show we headed back to the Coast Hotel and Cascades Casino for an evening of fun and festivities. The hotel put on a fabulous buffet spread including some of the best Roast Beef I have had in quite some time. Jim Clipperton of Nor-Val Rentals was our MC for the night and the food was so good it got an applause from the crowd. After dinner we were entertained by a comedian (Roman) who was very funny. As you can see from the picture to the right, Roman brought up Cat Bischke of Cardinal Rentals and did a bite where Cat is pretending her hands are Romans’. As you can tell from the picture she is being a good sport and laughing along with the crowd at their combined antics.

Paul Kenyon

After dinner there were a few brief speeches from Jeff Campbell who is the incoming CRA National President (of St. Thomas Rent-All) and Paul Kenyon, the ARA Region 10 representative (Absolute Tent and Event Rentals). As always the BC Regional CRA put together a fantastic event that is always great to be a part of. We look forward to seeing many of them at the show next year as well as at The Rental Show in Las Vegas in February.

We’re back in Vancouver in less than 2 weeks for the BC Foodservice Expo which will be taking place at the Vancouver Convention Centre. But before we head back west, we’re doing the CRA Ontario Tabletop Show which takes place January 19, 2013 at the Nottawasaga Resort in Alliston, Ontario. We are looking forward to seeing our Ontario Rental customers and relaxing with a beer after the show.

National Event Supply Introduces Polar White!

2013 has just started and already we've received our first container. This container was packed to the rooftop and took the better part of the day to unload. Inside was more than 50,000 pounds of porcelain that we'd ordered about three and a half months ago. With this container of porcelain we were able to replenish our stock of rectangular platters, our Quadrato Dinnerware, and our Hotelier Dinnerware before the busy spring buying season.

The container also had a whole new line of dinnerware that we're excited to introduce to the market. It is with great pleasure that we introduce our new line "Polar White". This 7 piece set currently consists of a dinner plate, a dessert plate, a side plate, a soup plate, a cereal bowl, and a stacking cup. Polar White is contemporary in design, with subtle circular embossing on the rim. It's perfect for casual events and can be dressed up for a more formal look.

This porcelain is a purer white, when compared to our other dinnerware lines, and represents good value for the price. We currently have Polar White available in larger quantities, and it is available for immediate shipment. If you would like to take a look at our Polar White line, you can stop by our showroom in Mississauga, or visit our booth at any of the upcoming trade shows that we'll be attending. The first trade show where we'll be showcasing our Polar White line will be at the BC CRA Regional Trade Show in Surrey, BC just outside of Vancouver.

If you can't make it to our showroom, and don't want to wait until we're at a trade show in your neighbourhood, feel free to take a look at some of the pictures that will be in our new tabletop catalogue which will be out later this spring.

We hope to ship the back orders of porcelain later this week. If you have any questions about our Polar White Line, or any of our other products, please don't hesitate to contact one of our helpful sales staff!

Ringing in the New Year!

2013 CalendarWell, we're back. The staff of National Event Supply are back from their Christmas Vacations and are feeling recharged and ready to start the New Year off with a bang. Projects that have been months in the making are quickly coming to an end. We have a new catalogue with all of our new products in the final phases and (almost) ready to print. The website is being dramatically revamped (again) with an eye towards the mobile web, and improved useability. New business cards have arrived and our new calendars are up and keeping the big dates in our minds.

Spring Buying

Winter has just begun, but it's time to start planning for Spring Purchases. At National Event Supply, we pride ourselves on being a stocking warehouse. We always try to keep things in stock so that if you need 50 folding tables shipped to you immediately, we can ship you 50 tables. We want you to be able to call us up and order a dozen plates (or 100 dozen plates) secure in the knowledge that we'll have them. Of course, sometimes we misjudge our stock levels, and run out of things like folding cocktail tables and white resin folding chairs. That's why we encourage people to let us know what they are interested in fairly early so we can order items accordingly. If you're interested in plastic folding tables for April, let us know now and we can put together a quote for you. Even if you don't want/need the folding tables until later in the spring, we'd like to know about it early enough so we can work to make sure we don't run out of the tables before you purchase yours.

Custom Orders

Now is also the time to inquire about custom orders. Custom orders typically take 90-120 days for manufacturing and shipping to our warehouse. If you're looking for a piece of custom dinnerware, or a particular colour of Chiavari Chair Cushion, now is the time to contact one of our sales reps and let them know what you're interested in.

Trade Shows

January, February, and March are also filled with trade shows. The National Event Supply trade show team will be doing a trade show on each of the last three weekends of January. On January 11 and 12, the trade show team will be in Surrey, BC for the BC CRA Regional Trade Show. On January 19, Dennis and the trade show team will be in Alliston for the CRA Ontario Tabletop Show. The trade show team ends the month back in BC at the BC Foodservice Expo on January 27 and 28. Dennis and the trade show team then get a couple of weeks to catch their breath before they head on down to Las Vegas for The Rental Show. You can get more information about each of the trade shows were exhibiting at here.

2013 has just started and already it's shaping up to be a big year. If you have any questions about our products, about custom orders, or about our trade show schedule, please don't hesitate to drop one of our sales reps a line!

Insights for Golf Courses

National Golf Club Owners AssociationIn the Winter 2012 edition of the Golf Business Canada Magazine, Jeff Calderwood wrote about the behaviour of Canadian Golfers. His 10 insights are based on findings from a national survey conducted by Navicom for the National Allied Golf Associations. To find a full copy of the study please visit www.canadagolfs.ca or www.ngcoa.ca.

The 10 Trends that Jeff documented were:

  1. The number of people entering the game equals the number leaving
  2. The number of golfers playing less golf now is much higher than the number playing more
  3. There are fewer juniors entering the game today than the previous generation
  4. 25% of golfers are truly engaged in the sport, while 75% are not
  5. 73% of Canadians do not play golf
  6. The shift from memberships to public golf continues
  7. Golfers' spending is generally flat
  8. Avid and frequent golfers remain a solid base
  9. Women are an opportunity for growth but are a very difficult segment to market to
  10. Consumer behaviour varies by demographic

All of the points that Jeff makes are crucial when evaluating the position of your golf course in your local market. For example, if people are playing less golf, you may not have the same connection that you may have had previously. This can make it a little more difficult for you and your staff to make them feel welcome or to anticipate their needs. If a person walks into your golf course and feels intimidated by the staff or atmosphere that has been created, they may not come back.

You will also want to consider new ways to reach your target audience to get them out to your golf course. If you're looking to increase the traffic in your club's restaurant, you might consider purchasing new dinnerware that will make your food pop. Today restaurants use mixtures of square, oval, and rectangular plates in addition to the standard round plates. A welcoming place to relax after finishing the back nine can make your course that much more appealing.

If you're looking to increase the revenues that you get from weddings or special events held at your course, you could purchasing Chiavari chairs or White Resin Folding Chairs. Both options are extremely popular in the event sector and often help venues win business that they will not otherwise win.

I encourage all Golf course operators to read Jeff’s article in the Golf Magazine for more insights into what you can do to help your golf course. I also recommend that you take a look at the survey for yourself because it will likely present more opportunities for your golf course in your local market.

If you are interested, we can be of assistance in purchasing new and cost effective dinnerware, cutlery, tables, chairs, platters, bowls or glassware to really make your golf course pop, please don’t hesitate to contact us. Be sure to plan ahead for your spring, we see such a significant increase in purchase volumes from golf courses that it is hard for us to keep inventory of our White resin folding chairs and our Chiavari chairs.
